While You’re At It, Mr. Fillion, Buy the Rights to “Drive”

Nathan Fillion, who was the star of the ELROYHEADDOTCOMRECOMMENDED show Firefly (also referenced on last week’s Community, and is also going to be airing on the Science Channel on March 6th) and is the current star of Castle, recently said the following in an interview with Entertainment Weekly:

If I got $300 million from the California Lottery, the first thing I would do is buy the rights to Firefly, make it on my own, and distribute it on the Internet.

…to which the Internet responded, CHALLENGE ACCEPTED.

I have an additional idea, Mr. Nathan Fillion: buy the rights to Drive.

For the uninitiated, allow me to initiate you (lol). Drive was a TV show from 2007 that featured an illegal street race with a mysterious purpose. It was kind of like LOST meets a sinister version of The Amazing Race, because anything that involves a mystery is like LOST.

Starring Nathan Fillion.

It aired on FOX, and was cancelled within ten days. They only aired four episodes, which were awesome, and some episodes were streamed online, because they cancelled it oh my god those jerks.

You’re not going to believe the reason why it got cancelled. Take it away, Wikipedia:

It debuted in the United States on April 15, 2007 on Fox, and moved into its regular time slot on Mondays the next day; in that slot it faced stiff competition from NBC’s Deal or No Deal and ABC’s Dancing with the Stars. On April 25, Fox canceled Drive only after four episodes had aired.

Yeah. Flippin’ Dancing With The Deal Or No Stars. Criminal, really. It wasn’t even given the chance to build an awesome fanbase like Firefly. What’s the Drive equivalent of Browncoats? OH THAT’S RIGHT WE’LL NEVER KNOW BECAUSE IT WAS ONLY ON TV FOUR TIMES. Actually, three times; the first two episodes were a two-hour premiere. So it’s even worse. That semicolon might be in the wrong place.

This is the other reason to bring it back:

Drive is the first place I saw Emma Stone, and is probably the first acting job she ever had in her entire life. So, I am basically saying that Emma Stone would not be famous today if Drive had not existed, which seems contradictory since nobody got to watch it, but this is my tumblog! “It was made for me!” Go tumbl your own og, you pedant!

Therefore, Drive was one of the most important shows of 2007, as its impact has had drastic effects on our pop culture today as we know it. Heck, even Spider-Man misses the show. And do you know who’s going to be in the new Spider-Man movie?

YUP

EMMA.

Fate has smiled upon us, Nathan Fillion, and it is telling you to Revive Drive.

Get it? It…rhymes?

Okay, one more “for the road” (lol)

LOST Maps (Wait, They Don’t Love You Like I Love You)

If you haven’t watched LOST, then I guess there are spoilers in this post.

As you are no doubt aware, LOST is ending this season. In celebration of that (and because I lent them the DVDs), I’ve been rewatching most of the series from the beginning at a friend’s house recently.

I’m more accepting of random-weird-sci-fi LOST stuff than most people I know, so I always catch myself wondering how long it will take them to stop caring about LOST. I look for things that might immediately turn them off to it (the hatch, the smoke monster, the random-visions-of-people-walking-around-that-disappear) but none of it seems to. And now they’re approaching season 3, which leads us to New Otherton, or whatever you want to call it.

I was surprised as heck (as hecky darn darn heck!!) when New Otherton popped up, seemingly out of nowhere, in a flashback. Could this be the thing that makes them go “Wait, NO”? I don’t know. But in order to combat that, I started looking for some maps of the island.

I found a pretty good map at—get this—a blog called “The LOST Map”. Here it is (click to see the full resolution map):

LOST MAP

Further investigation took me to Lostpedia, which in turn took me to this thread about a crazy person who is crazy good at making maps.

In conclusion, some people are crazier than me.

Terrible LOST Theory #3

We’ve all seen Cloverfield, right? And we all saw the Dharma Initiative logo in Cloverfield, right?

Of course, we all assumed that this was just a casual reference, since JJ Abrams only produced Cloverfield (and came up with the idea, or something.) But, WHAT IF IT REALLY MEANT

SOMETHING ELSE TOO?

THE FACTS: I’m pretty sure Cloverfield takes place on January 18th, 2008—the same date the movie was released into theaters. And according to Lostpedia, the LOSTies (ugh) are probably still somewhere in December 2007.

THE THEORY: The Man in Black/Smoke Monster/”Esau”/The Guy That Isn’t Jacob is the monster from Cloverfield.

He wants to leave the island, and all signs seem to indicate that letting him leave is a bad idea. Why? Because he’ll unleash evil upon the world? Of course not, since there’s already all kinds of evil in the world.

It’s because he’s a murderous monster who hates statues.

It explains so much.

“ Lost has reached the point that it’s nearly impossible to jump in to the show having missed a few episodes. Even if you followed the story from the beginning, if you miss 3 or more episodes you’ll come back to the show to find a brand new character referencing another character you’ve never heard of before. Even once you figure out this new character, eventually (probably during a season finale) another character you’ve never heard of will show up accompanied by dramatic reveal music as the main characters look at them in awe…it turns out that the new character was introduced in a dream sequence in the episode you missed and is crucial to the plot. ”
